Pattaya, which means the 'south-west monsoon wind", is one of the most popular beach resorts in the world. In 2005 it was visited by some 5,4 million visitors.   Karon Beach, located on the west coast of Phuket island, is a beach and the town adjoining it. The beach is approx. 1.5 km long. Karon Beach is very popular tourist destination, it is much more quieter than neighbouring Patong Beach. Therefore it is visited rather by families and couples. Karon offers visitors a long stretch of  white sand and some nice snorkeling and diving sites.
